Trading Application Support Engineer

Group Brief

The Trading Technology Team is responsible for ensuring that the trading department has the technology and infrastructure they require to meet their goal of trading excellently, in a secure and reliable manner. This involves developing systems in house and integrating third party products, with high standards of security and reliability.

The application support team (ETS) is responsible for ensuring the existing technology is delivered in a manner that aligns with the business needs. This entails a broad set of factors including resiliency, BC/DR, security, application and infrastructure support, application and infrastructure monitoring across both in house systems and service providers.

We're looking for senior and junior level engineers who have experience, conceptual intelligence, and the drive to maintain a world-class 24 x 6 support function for Trading Tech. The Application Support Engineer will interact with a wide array of stakeholders, from traders to developers to members of our Infrastructure team and to the Application Portfolio Managers in Trading Tech. To be successful in this role, the Application Support Engineer will need to provide excellent support to the Trading Technology platforms. This support can take place across multiple dimensions; including incident, request and problem management, and change management and implementation.

We need this individual to become a key contributor in enabling ETS to become a professional support organization - enabling us to provide strong/effective support to the trading department. This implies operating in a professional manner and having the right technical skills to function effectively supporting the Trading floor.

Requirements

Description

The Support Engineer is responsible for contributing to the ongoing availability of the technology & infrastructure that the trading department requires to meet its goals. This includes but is not limited to:

1. Supporting a portfolio of applications/services in a secure and reliable manner
2. On-boarding new systems and services from application portfolio team
3. Supporting, or overseeing the support of technology infrastructure in a secure and reliable manner

The Support Engineer reports to the Application Support Manager. Direct customers will include traders, the analytics team, the trading tech team and all who rely on technology infrastructure, applications and services to function as expected 24 x 6 in a secure and reliable manner.

Core Criteria

1. General Requirement
a. Creative, original thought and not constrained by status quo, initiative with conceptual intelligence.
b. Open to giving and receiving direct criticism in an environment where people are encouraged to challenge and criticize management of all levels.
2. Support Skills
a. 7+ years of IT experience, with 3+ years in enterprise support, including 24x7 coverage for the senior position, and 1+ years of enterprise support experience for the junior level position.
b. Experience supporting broad portfolio of applications (25+), home grown as well as third party
c. Knowledge of support engineering as a discipline
d. Experience on a trading floor highly desired
e. Technical degree
f. Detail oriented, can follow procedures
g. SQL a must, relevant experience with a Microsoft development environment a plus
3. Management Ability
a. Can communicate effectively at the right level with customers (Infrastructure, developers, etc.), the Head of Core Tech, different types of staff, (support engineers, level-1 associates, etc.)
b. Ability to spot flaws in process design, create new design to eliminate the flaws
4. Right Personality/Brains
a. Grace under pressure, combined with paranoia/high responsibility. Imagine a nuclear power plant engineer or an emergency room employee. Must be steady under stress.
b. Good common sense/judgment.
c. Fast processing speed. Need to keep up in a fast-paced, cerebral environment.
d. Pattern recognizer
