ADO.NET is a set of computer software components that can be used by programmers to access data and data services. It is a part of the base class library that is included with the Microsoft .NET Framework. It is commonly used by programmers to access and modify data stored in relational database systems, though it can also be used to access data in non-relational sources. ADO.NET is sometimes considered an evolution of ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) technology, but was changed so extensively that it can be considered an entirely new product.

ADO.NET Entity Framework is a set of data access APIs for the Microsoft .NET Framework, targeting the version of ADO.NET that ships with .NET Framework 3.5. However, it will be released as an out-of-band update after both .NET Framework 3.5 and Visual Studio 2008 have shipped. An Entity Framework Entity is an object which has a key representing the primary key of a logical datastore entity. A conceptual Entity Data Model (Entity-relationship model) is mapped to a datastore schema model. Using the Entity Data Model, the Entity Framework allows data to be treated as entities independently of their underlying datastore representations.

Entity SQL is a SQL-like language for querying the Entity Data Model (instead of the underlying datastore). Similarly, Linq extension Linq-to-Entities provides typed querying on the Entity Data Model. Entity SQL and Linq-to-Entities queries are converted internally into a Canonical Query Tree which is then converted into a query understandable to the underlying datastore (e.g. into SQL in the case of a Relational database). The entities can be using their relationships, and their changes committed back to the datastore

The Research Systems Group provides development and support to various Investment Divisions in all areas of the investment process, including research, portfolio construction and optimization, pre and post trade analytics, trading, middle and back office.

Position Overview:

GMO is looking to fill an open development position on GMO’s Quantitative Trading Systems team.

The ideal candidate will be a self-directed, mid to senior level software development professional that has a clear track record of productive contributions to the delivery of successful custom development projects, preferably dealing with equity trading. The candidate should be able to communicate and collaborate in a team setting with other developers, analysts, project managers, and end-users. Frequent interaction with quant traders, analysts, and portfolio managers is required. This is a contract position.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Design, develop, test, and enhance components of a service-oriented solution for a quantitative equity trading platform.

· Work closely with the project team to understand requirements and ensure that requirements are satisfied. The team consists of technical, trading, research and portfolio management professionals.

· Develop deep expertise in the equity trading platform, workflows, and data.

· This role is 20 to 30% analysis (gathering requirements, working directly with the Equity team) and the remainder is implementation.

Minimum Requirements:

· Subject matter expertise in equity trading.

· Minimum 5 years of technical experience developing/supporting any or all of the following:

o Execution management systems, third-party or in-house.
o Trade cost analysis tools, applications, or reports.
o Market data platforms, specifically tick data direct from exchange feeds or via third-party aggregators.
o Financial modeling (cost, risk, liquidity, etc)

Desired Skills and Experience:

· Technical (any combination of):

o Development languages: C#, Java, C++
o Execution Management Systems: InfoReach, FlexTrade, Athena Trader, ITG Triton
o Market data feeds: CQS, CTS, UQDF, UTDF, OMDF
o Messaging/middleware: TIBCO, 29West, MQ Series
o Time series databases: kdb+, Vhayu Velocity, FastTick
o CEP: Apama, Streambase
o Feed handler suites: Activ Financial, Wombat

· Business (any combination of):

o Equity trading
o Trade cost analysis
o Trade optimization
